Waitangi Day Concert with Jayson Norris (supported by z.electric & Simon Christie) - 6 February 2010 - Winston Kingdom

No better way to celebrate Waitangi Day (New Zealand day)...2 great Kiwi bands especially over to entertain & party!

Combining his rich, earthy voice with a blend of soul, roots and rock, Jayson Norris offers music inspired by many songwriters including Ben Harper, Lenny Kravitz and Bob Marley. Jayson's cultural and musical, Maori and New Zealand heritage is subtly reflected with a South-Pacific feel resonating throughout his songs

JAYSON NORRIS is a Singer/Songwriter originally from Kaitaia, a small town situated in the far north of New Zealand's North Island. Jayson relocated to London in 2004 where he has remained. Since his move to the UK, Jayson Norris has released two albums, "A Basket Full" in 2006 and the new 2009 release "Freedom To Live".

The independent success of "A Basket Full" provided opportunities for support slots throughout the UK with well known artists such as Blue King Brown, Pete Murray, Dave Dobbyn, Breaks Co -Op and the Black Seeds, along with invitations to perform at some of London's biggest music festivals including "Love Box", "Secret Garden" and "Toast" 2006-2009 to name just a few.

Jayson has built up a cult following in London and the UK with sell out gigs; featured on the Popworld compilation album along side Rogue Traders, Westlife and Lil Chris; supported New Zealand and Australian artists such as Anika Moa, Hayley Westenra, Nathan King (Zed), Jason Kerrison (Opshop), Anna Coddington.
Jayson has also shared the stage with international acts such as Andrea Boccelli, where he sang backing vocals and played in front of other international stars some of which include Bjork, Paul McCartney and Will Young.

Jayson returned to NZ in March 2008 to headline the "Acoustic Lounge Tour" which featured artists such as Jason Kerrison (Opshop), Jonny Love and Luke Thompson. The tour was a huge success with all shows selling out. Jayson won over a whole new fan base with his phenomenal live show.

"Freedom to Live" was completed in June 2009, was mixed in NZ at York St Studios by Steve Roberts (Having produced, mixed and engineered for a number of acts including Tricky, Soul II Soul, Money Mark, Dave Dobbyn, Che Fu and Brooke Fraser) and mastered at Abbey Road by Kathy Bryan. The album truly conveys Jayson's explosive live feel and captures the real soul and emotion of Jayson both musically and in his heartfelt lyrics.

Supporting Jayson Norris will be 2 acts: -
UK based Kiwi band z.electric.

z.electric are an electro/drum&bass/dub trio (Phill Smith, Ed Cubitt and Jasmine Bee) who are based in London, UK. Their music has grown out of a fusion of Kiwi and UK influences including the likes of Shapeshifter (NZ), Massive Attack (UK), London Elektricity (UK) and Beck (USA). They formed in late 2008 and have since played venues in London including "Brixton Jamm" and "Vibe". Stylistically, z.electric are diverse. The digital aspects of their music are contrasted by their employment of live instrumentation in the form of guitar, saxophone and vocals. This live setup enables them to jump from liquid drum and bass, to electro and even folk.
