Waitangi Day Concert review
8 February 2009
All Black Legend Zinzan Brooke did a masterful job of running proceedings at the recent Waitangi Day concert at the Sugar Factory in Amsterdam. Zinzan kept everyone entertained with his many stories & his great kiwi humour.
The first band up was Stealing Green which was hard rock and they belted out some very good numbers and broke down the shyness factor of the 300 something crowd.
Between the band change over, Kylie Martin sang the Maori version of the New Zeland anthem. She did a truly beautiful job and hand the hairs standing up on the back of most people necks. The 2nd version being the English version was no where near the standard set by Kylie, mainly due to the mono-tone voices of Zinzan, Andy Sceats, although Sahna Thomson's contribution made a lot of difference!
The Rock Band Marystaple were the 2nd band and as the main billing, they didn't disapoint in 60 mins of music. They got the crowd really going for it which was great to see. The night came to a conclution at 11.15pm, although not before a special raffle of Zinzan's past Rugby jerseys, his autobiography and then with Zinzan leading the haka on stage with the help of the Kiwi Rugby players from Castricum Rugby Club.
All in all a highly entertaining event and now the platform & standard has been set, this event will only get bigger and better every year.
