Christchurch Earthquake Relief Fundraiser
11 April 2011
A big THANK-YOU! to everyone that came along to support the Christchurch Earthquake Relief Fundraiser on the 25th March. With over 200 people packing out Macy’s, the night was filled with plenty of good company, cool tunes, tasty pies and delicious cocktails... plus some awesome raffle prizes and auction items.
In attendance we also had our very own NZ Ambassador George Troup, who shared some of his own fond memories of Christchurch and his hopes for its re-construction and future. And indeed, throughout the night we connected with many people and talked through what has been a harrowing time for our friends and loved-ones back home in NZ. All in all, it was a great night for us all to come together as an expat community, not only of New Zealanders, but people from many different countries. It’s humbling and wonderful to have this kind of support.
And now we’ve finally been able to tallying up all the money that was raised on the night through donations, raffles and the auction, plus special fund-raising dinners and donations over the subsequent following weeks. We are very happy to announce that we’ve raised €17,500.00 which is a fantastic result. But it gets even better... BHP Billiton will be matching these funds, which means we have a grand total of €35,000.00 being donated to the Christchurch (New Zealand) Red Cross.
Again, thank you to all those who supported us on the night, and also, thank you to all the people and organisations who supported this initiative, whether it was through volunteering your time, making a monetary donation, or donating products or services, it’s all been greatly appreciated.
